In July 2011 the UK Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rt Hon George Osborne MP, officially opened Man’s new international headquarters at 2 Swan Lane, London. Man has signed a 20-year lease on the Corporation of London development on the banks of the Thames. Riverbank House comprises 325,000 sq.ft. over 10 floors of which Man has taken three of the office floors with Royal Bank of Canada and RBC Dexia taking the remaining space as sub-tenants. All employees from Sugar Quay and Centennium House have now been relocated.
Riverbank House was selected for a number of reasons including minimal staff disruption due to proximity to our old offices, excellent transport links, and a design stressing high-level environmental performance, in line with Man’s Environmental Policy.
“This new world class facility demonstrates Man’s continued commitment to London after being located in the City for more than two centuries. We have made significant investments in cutting edge trading and communications technology, and we look forward to serving clients from this base for many more years to come."
Peter Clarke, Man Chief Executive

Sustainability was high on the design brief, and a key factor in Man’s choice of the final scheme. Man supplemented the developer’s base build with additional measures to ensure an ‘Excellent’ BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Methodology) rating.
BREEAM is a voluntary scheme that aims to encourage environmentally sound building, by rewarding designs that take positive steps to minimise their environmental impacts in the following categories:
Our fit-out contractor, ISG Interiors Services Group, placed great emphasis on the environmental impact of the works; it operated an active policy on waste reduction and on-site recycling of materials. A recycling rate of 97% of all surplus materials from site was achieved during summer 2010. ISG also adopted a green transportation policy, which seeks to ensure that all journeys to site are both necessary and fully laden and return journeys as fully loaded as possible. All site labour uses public transport. ISG’s 37 out of 40 score in the ‘Considerate Constructors’ scheme is far above average.
Our congratulations go to ISG and their subcontractors who were awarded the Lord Mayor of the City of London’s Dragon Award for Social Inclusion. The award recognises the work that ISG’s team responsible for Man’s fit-out carried out to refurbish the Downside Fisher Youth Club’s boxing gym. As part of their corporate sustainability strategy ISG engages with communities local to their projects, with the aim of leaving a positive legacy in neighbourhoods after time on site.
