Rather than supporting large national charities the Trust funds small to medium-size charities that can secure sustainable improvements in the lives of the vulnerable and deprived in our society. We fund in areas that often receive little public support such as domestic violence; addiction; homelessness and mental health. We look to help such disadvantaged people re-integrate into society, by alleviating hardship and inspiring hope.
We support projects that engage with disadvantaged youth, by tackling exclusion and encouraging aspiration. We look to identify those with potential, and fund bursaries to help them fulfil it.
We support charities that develop innovative projects, many of which find it hard to gain funding, being at an experimental or pilot stage, or considered "too risky". For example City Year, in the US - a charity which brings together young people of all backgrounds for a year of full-time service in schools, as tutors, mentors and role models, leading in-school and after-school programmes and community projects. The Trust has become a Founding Partner in an initiative to bring the City Year programme to London.
