Examples of charitable support

 

Merlin

Through the support of Merlin, a specialist medical and humanitarian aid agency, the Man Charitable Trust helped save lives by donating to the East Africa food crisis. By increasing the number of health facilities, mobile clinics and hospitals supported, and by expanding the reach of vaccination, nutrition and health care programmes, Merlin has been able to reach hundreds of thousands of vulnerable people in some of the least accessible and most dangerous regions of Somalia.

 

Skill Force

Skill Force is an educational charity working in partnership with schools to deliver an alternative curriculum to young people across London who are in danger of exclusion or underachievement in mainstream education. Most Skill Force instructors are ex-Services, with the real life experience and credibility to deliver long term personal support, and help young people gain the knowledge, skills, experience and, most importantly, the self-belief to aspire and to achieve.

 

Teach First

The mission of Teach First is ‘to address educational disadvantage by transforming exceptional graduates into effective, inspirational teachers and leaders in all fields.’ It does this by placing high-performing graduates in some of the most challenging schools in England to raise the achievement and aspirations of their pupils.

 

 

Student Hubs

Student Hubs works across the UK to transform student involvement in social action. They seek to act as a catalyst, empowering students to become active members of their community by promoting social action, social entrepreneurship and citizenship. They were founded in Oxford in 2007 and, since then, funding from the Man Charitable Trust has allowed them to grow a network of ‘Hubs’ in universities which now includes Cambridge, Bristol, Oxford Brookes, Southampton and Warwick as well as the flagship Oxford Hub. Ultimately, Students Hubs wants making a difference in the world to be something students can easily and effectively achieve alongside their studies.

 

 

 

Eaves

Eaves is a London-based charity that provides support to vulnerable women through a range of services including accommodation, support and advocacy for women who are affected by domestic violence, rape or sexual abuse. The Trust made a three year commitment to The Poppy Project which provides accommodation and support to women trafficked into the UK for the purposes of exploitation. This could include but is not limited to sexual exploitation, labour exploitation, forced illicit activities and organ harvesting.

 

  

 

Community Links

An innovative east London charity, running a wide range of community projects in Newham for over 30,000 people every year. They have over 30 years of experience working with local people to support children, young people, adults and families in one of the most deprived boroughs in London. The Trust supported the charity’s drop-in Advice Service which provides specialist advice to 10,000 vulnerable people on a wide range of issues every year, from legal advice on employment law to advice on welfare benefits, housing or debt.

 

 

The Passage

A charity that provides shelter and a variety of support services to the homeless in Victoria, London. Each day the charity provides help to more than 200 homeless and vulnerable men and women. Services include a Day Centre, offering basic care, advice, health, housing, education, training and employment and outreach services for rough sleepers. The Passage also provides hostel accommodation and 16 self-contained studio flats with staff support on site for those preparing for independent living and re-integration.
